Policy:
All responses to the readings should be posted on the blog.
Blog posts should be tagged with both the theme of
the post AND your name.
If
you need to arrange an extension for a piece of work, this needs to
be arranged with the instructor BEFORE it is due.
Homework
will not be accepted if it is more than two class days late.
Attendance and Participation Policy:
To receive an "A" for attendance and participation, you must attend class regularly, be on time, and participate well. A mid-term evaluation of attendance and participation will be given.
Inappropriate
laptop/cell phone use (e.g.
texting, chatting, checking facebook or sports scores, answering the
phone)
will lower your attendance/participation grade significantly.
Speaking and listening in class are an essential part of this course! Thus it follows that if you have more than TEN absence hours at the end of the semester, your FINAL COURSE GRADE will be an AUTOMATIC E. If you have 8 - 10 absence hours, your ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION GRADE (20% of your final course grade) decreases by two full grades (e.g. a "B" becomes a "D"). If you have 4.5 - 7.5 absence hours, your ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION GRADE decreases by one full grade (e.g. a "B" becomes a "C"). The more often you arrive late to class, the lower your attendance and participation grade will be.
You can make up a maximum of four absence hours. Hours can be made up by attending the conversation hours in North Quad or the MLB, and visiting German Lab in the LRC.
Please explain all absences, IN ADVANCE if possible. Excused absences count as half an "absence hour."
